These beautiful hand-made cups by local ceramics artist Viven Iona Newton (https://www.facebook.com/Earthware-771284443046293/) are as gorgeous as they are sustainable. We've worked with Vivien from concept to completion all the way to ensure that these cups are something that some of you might like to buy or gift this season. The clay she uses is sourced locally and she makes and fires every one of them by hand in her workshop in Biggar, South Lanarkshire.
The craftsmanship of Viv's pieces is stunning and the process is truly hypnotic. Each cup started from a lump of clay, then it was turned into shape, stamped with our logo, fired and glazed and then fired again for a beautiful glossy finish with the most gorgeous texture and feel.
The cups are about 10cm diameter, just perfect for warming up your hands with your favourite hot beverage or soup this winter. By purchasing these hand-made local items, you are supporting independent, local talent and promoting sustainable sourcing and traditional arts in Scotland.
These are hand-made one-of-a-kind commissions for Common Weal in a very limited edition and they each take some time to manufacture. The images were previously a digital visualisation but we have now updated them all to show the actual finished items, which are slightly different in colour as previously expected.
